You know I'm under the influence
So don't trust every word I say, I say
When I'm under the influence
It's a blur, but I want my way, my way
You know I'm under the influence
So don't trust every word I say, I say
Sounds good without making sense
It's a blur, but I want my way, my way
When I'm under the influence

It's Friday afternoon, so of course my mind is off racing to happy hour. Even though my body is sitting here at the computer planning my upcoming nutrition and lifestyle program, Camp Kale.
Friday and happy hour go together like — well, bread-and-butter, and bacon-and-eggs — and other things you're not supposed to be thinking about when you're planning a cleanse. You see, Friday happy hour and me go way back. Trust me. This is a practice I've been honing and perfecting ever since majoring in G&Ts at Notre Dame.
But as much as part of me loves Friday and happy hours, the other part of me — the healthier one — is gaining power. She's been patiently biding her time all summer. Witnessing all of those vacation-induced mai tais, the Backyard Barbecue Kettle Chips, and overall fries-with-that behavior.
She knows fall is coming, and that she'll be in complete charge when Camp Kale comes along.
Who's in Charge of You?
Most of my clients experience the same dual nature I do. They like vegetables and generally like to eat healthy, but summer gets going and then it's like a four-lane highway of rosé-all-day coming their way. It's as if their party-self has a megaphone in one hand, and a tequila bottle in the other, and the healthy-self's voice gets drowned out by “HEY DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, YOU DESERVE THIS DRINK/CUPCAKE/IPA/ONION RING. LET'S DO THIS!”
And all of it seems so fun and footloose and fancy-free until we realize we don't feel so great.
In fact, we feel like crap.
When we look in the mirror in the morning we see puffy eyes, and our rings don't fit. Our digestion's off, and the bloat sets in. Workouts are harder. Having the energy to make dinner is harder. Heck, everything seems harder.
If this is you, it sounds like you might need to put your party hat on the shelf for awhile. Donate the candy stash. Lock the liquor cabinet. Lace up your shoes and make that workout happen. And fill your fridge and pantry with amazing, fresh food.
That's what we'll be doing at Camp Kale.
Yes, We Eat Food at Camp Kale
A couple of you have asked me if Camp Kale is a juice cleanse or a fast. And the answer is: hell NO!
Camp Kale involves enjoying, exploring, and experimenting with beautiful, fresh, nutrient-dense smoothies, salads, soups, snacks and hearty entrees. No starving, no deprivation, no juicing. Of course, if you love wheatgrass shots like I do, you can add those in, but juicing is strictly optional.
Camp Kale may initially sound radical (eek! kale!), but it's actually very simple and straightforward — and very do-able. Here's what happens: we gradually reduce our use of refined sugar, refined carbs, alcohol, and dairy. While we're transitioning, I coach you about what yummy foods and practices you can use to replace your favorite unhealthy food and beverages.
After the transition phase, I lead the group on a 10-day cleanse. I provide all of the meal plans and recipes, as well as day-to-day coaching via email and live coaching calls.
Then, after the 10-day cleanse, we have a couple of days of transition before this session of Camp Kale ends.
That's it!
Not so scary right? Especially since you'll have my coaching and support every step of the way, and you'll be accompanied by a group of like-minded campers.
It's kind of like going to a different kind of party — one where you don't have to worry about not-drinking or not-binge-eating, because everyone there is enjoying kombucha and Instagram-worthy healthy delights.
It's like being under the influence, but by something that's positive and light and empowering and all sparkly and stuff. Not something that has you reaching for ibuprofen and a huge glass of water in the morning. And sunglasses, depending on what kind of a night it was.
