Can I share a little secret?
I'm one of the only people I know not doing botox… and I often wonder if I should.
I mean, my “elevens” aren't getting any younger, right?
But then I think… maybe not yet.
The long term effects of a botox habit give me pause.
Plus, I'd rather see if I could use food and lifestyle to improve my health (and skin) — and most things, for that matter.
I'm weird like that.
So I've been spending some time focusing on foods that are known to help our skin build collagen… and look younger.
Foods that can help your skin look younger
Yes, there are foods that can help you look younger.
I'm talking about foods that are high in vitamin C, such as raspberries.
Vitamin C rich foods help the body build collagen, which is what provides structure and strength to our skin.
So we don't actually need those expensive (and highly marketed) collagen powders and coffee mixes.
Or an expensive vitamin C serum that could potentially irritate your skin.
Our best bet would be to focus on hydrating ourselves, and eating nutrient-dense foods that are naturally high in vitamin C.
Some vitamin C rich foods you could try include:
- Cantaloupe
- Citrus fruits
- Kiwi
- Red, orange and yellow bell peppers
- Raspberries
Better than Botox… maybe!
Speaking of raspberries, how about blending some up in this Anti-Aging Raspberry Smoothie?
It's a delicious way to support your collagen production, without having to use those powders made from cow hides, bones or fish scales. This recipe, BTW, includes both hemp and flax seeds — also great for your skin!
And if you're already doing botox — no judgement here!
Who knows? Maybe I'll bump into you at a botox party or doctor's office sometime in the future.
In the meantime, try this smoothie. I mean, why not?
You could be enjoying a tasty smoothie while supporting your skin — while also getting some vitamin C to neutralize free radicals, strengthen your immune system, and boost iron absorption.
