Speedy Green Smoothie
I saw this smoothie idea on Buzzfeed — apparently, New York City’s Terri restaurant sells hundreds of their signature 5-ingredient smoothie every day. To speed up the process, the restaurant places the non-liquid ingredients into plastic cups, then freezes them. When it’s time to make the smoothie, they remove a cup from the freezer, and pour soy milk to the rim. Then, all of the cup’s contents are dumped into a blender for a quick blend. The smoothie is then served in the original cup that was in the freezer — less mess! This recipe calls for unsweetened almond milk (the original uses sweetened soy milk, which delivers a whopping 12 grams of sugar per serving!).
Serves 1
Ingredients
- 1/2 pear, chopped
- 1/2 banana, chopped
- 1 cup of packed spinach
- 1 tablespoon almond butter (unsweetened)
- about 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
Directions
-
Step 1
Place the pear and banana into a clean, 16-ounce mason jar.
-
Step 2
Spoon the almond butter into the center of the jar, on top of the fruit. This way, the almond butter won't stick to the sides of the jar when it comes time to make the smoothie.
-
Step 3
Pack the greens on top of the fruit and almond butter. Twist on the lid and put in the freezer overnight.
-
Step 4
In the morning, take the mason jar out and remove the lid. Pour almond milk over the jar contents until it reaches the rim. Let the jar sit on your counter for a few minutes to defrost a bit.
-
Step 5
Pour the mason jar ingredients into the blender. Process until creamy and smooth.
-
Step 6
Pour back into the original mason jar and serve.
