Cranberry Orange Smoothie

This smoothie is high in vitamin C and other nutrients — as well as fiber, protein and healthy fats. Plus, it’s satisfying and sweet-tart delicious. This smoothie is a perfectly healthy way to start out your Thanksgiving Day — or any morning for that matter. Blend one of these up first thing — or after a Thanksgiving morning workout — and you’ll be energized for hours as you get ready for the day’s festivities.

Yield: Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 1/4 cup raw hazelnuts (soak overnight, then drain and rinse before using)
  • 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed
  • 1 tablespoon of whole chia seed
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (I use a microplane)
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 oranges - peeled, seeded and chopped
  • 1/2 cup of organic, frozen cranberries
  • 1 banana, cut into chunks and frozen
  • 1/2 cup of ice (optional)

Directions

  • Step 1

Place ingredients into high-speed blender, adding frozen fruit and ice last.

  • Step 2

Process until creamy and smooth. Add water a quarter-cup at a time if you want a thinner consistency.

  • Step 3

Serve immediately or store some in the fridge for later. Salud!
